I must say, this article scared the Dung out of me. I'm not comfortable with this at all. Why did he have to add to the drama that we already have? I don't understand why he would say these things to the media. Think it to yourself if you want, but don't go public with it. I hope this season doesn't turn into another gong show...

I am not sure why people are upset by this. He has played with Montreal for a while so it is only natural that he would want to retire there. He has his foundation set up there and his kids are already settled there. Does that mean that he wont play well for thr Sens, I think not.

Yeah, this is a bit concerning... a player who's already got lots of questions about his commitment and heart says this before he's even played a game for the Sens?

Hmmmm.... me no likey.

"We can't really get any better offer...Ottawa was like the last choice..."

wtf. Listening to him talk about it may have been the least reassuring thing I could have done. Bad idea.

As long as he produces in Ottawa, I could care less where he goes in two years. He'll be 200 in sports years by then.

Is that an actual quote? I saw that in the comments... but have yet to see it as an actual quote from Kovalev.

at least he is honest he said he was looking for term more than money and he saw no reason to not go to ottawa since they were offering 2 years which was the best offer..I am not overly worried i still think he is going to play the way he does regardless

this worse then what i thought... great! ottawa is a last choice!
how did we go from stanley cup finals to a last choice? when did ottawa become such an un-attractive destination?

i didn't like the kovalev signing then and i like it least now. when will i like it? when he nets his 30th.

You guys really have to sit back and let this go. Trust me, Ottawa was not his only choice. There are teams like Minny, LA, Tampa Bay, Nashville and on and on and on that were probably vying for his services. He was signed on July 3rd or whenever it was. If Ottawa was his only choice, would he sign so quickly?

I think he just wants to emphasize that it wasn't his choice to leave Montreal. He may have an awkward way of expressing that, but I get it.

if ottawa management screwed up, and alfie signed in montreal for two years, don't you think he would say i would like to retire in ottawa. do you think he would play any less hard because of the logo on his sweater?
i hink we are over thinking this. kovalev will do his job.

Mountains out of molehills. This was and is a non-story. Why don't you stop over at the "Quotes" thread and share your favorite?

I have to agree with Spez and others in quickly downplaying this story. I think Kovalev's family will still reside in Montreal, even while he plays for Ottawa.

Someone mentioned term, and I do believe Ottawa was the only one not offering a 1 year deal.

I have no doubt he'll play lights out in Ottawa. After the two years, if he still has a little gas in the tank, he'll likely sign a one year deal back with the Habs in order to retire in the Bleu, Blanc et Rouge.

I supsect the molehill is being made into a mountain simply because this IS Kovalev. At least, for me it is. I was not a fan of this signing when I heard about it. Actually, I almost puked. Hearing this just brings back those concerns. But, we'll see how it all unfolds and if he does net 30+ them I'll be smiling.
