Jesus, that's a litter! A litter of human babies. Hope she doesn't eat any of them.

Could this be the result of fertility treatment?????

She qualifies for something known as selective reduction, to reduce the
number of fetuses. From the sounds of it, that's probably her only hope
of having ANY of them survive. A doctor is quoted in that story as saying even one surviving is about a 1 in 100 chance. :****:

It boggles the mind, but with today's fertility treatments, people are having litters of children...

Not to go on a rant here but, the world is rapidly approaching critical levels of population. There will be a time in our lifetimes when we could struggle to feed everyone. Seriously, we ought to be thinking of way to control the population, not increase it expotentially.

I guess people reckon it's better to have twins or 3-4 kids than have none at all.

I remember reading that there's a significant number (I don't remember the percentage) of couples though that are otherwise fertile, using fertility boosting methods specifically with the intent of multiple births. That's where alot of these huge births are coming from. That's the problem I see with it. It shouldn't be exploited like that imo.

I was reading about Octomom, and she had 8 embryos left after her first IV treatment, and risked losing them (I guess they have a shelf life). So instead of doing the logical thing as a single mother with 6 or so kids already and only implanting a couple she did them all, so she wouldn't lose them. I want to see that argument, but at some point common sense should prevail.

Don't get me started on Octomom. Facepalm But I definetly agree with your point about already fertile parents. The fertility boosting help was made for a reason and it wasn't to increase the world population at an enormous rate. I know people are free to choose if they like multiple births but it has to come to a point where people start using their common sense a bit

Yep. This is a classic example of where science isn't doing humanity any favours. This is a wonderful technology that helps people who desperately need it. That's not easy for me to say being an atheist, and a staunch supporter of science, but I think people who can let nature take it's course, should.

If this is the kind of abuse we see of this type of technology, what will happen when scientist figure out how to code stem cells to grow into body parts using your DNA? That's effectively cloning parts of yourself. Since it's your DNA, a perfect match for type is almost guaranteed I would think. I'd hate to see a future like that movie "The Island" with Scarlett Johansson. Pretty scary really.

See the problem is this technology is made for a purpose and should be kept for that purpose. Its harsh to say that boosting fertility drugs shouldn't be given to already fertile parents but like you said sometimes people should let nature take its course

Same with cloning, that movie was too much of an exaggeration but if cloning if used properly can be a very valuable asset but knowing it will probably end up being abused I'm not sure how much of a cloning Im an advocate of

I don't think that cloning a full human will happen to be honest. Organs, yes, but not entire humans. There is just too much to debate from an ethical and moral standpoint. I can't imagine the religious community backing this idea in any way, shape or form, as it would almost certainly be looked at as violating God's will or whatever you choose to call it. Organ, bone, and tissue creation I could see though in the future.

Wow, I didn't know Octomom already had six. Fertility treatments are not cheap. How does an unemployed single mother of six, living on social assistance, afford the services of a fertility specialist? Boggles the mind.

As to the matter at hand, this woman is most likely in for a lifetime of grief. Medical miracles happen (I've got two of them sleeping in a bedroom down the hall) but it would take much more than that in this case. For the record, our doctor also instructed us on selective reduction because of special circumstances (doesn't have to be a high number at all). Long after the decision though he did say that even had we gone for that, there was a high risk of losing the other one as well. Well, our "choices" are about to start grade 2 in a couple of weeks. Sadly, I don't see this happy outcome in this situation, though.

this is unbelieveable, there is no way she can deliver that many babies naturally, have them all survive, and for her to survive as well. I think she should have opted for "selective reduction", she gets to keep some of her kids and there is no chance of her not surviving. I don't understand fully a mother's connection to her unborn children, but that would have to be a hard choice to make.
