Guaranteed? Do you know something we don't? Because I would love to believe that. A-Train at a low cap-hit would be welcome on my team until the day he retires. Sure he's going to suffer more nagging little injuries, but his game isn't going to suffer from skills dwindling or a loss of speed. He'll be effective as long as his body holds up.

Yes, guaranteed. He will sign a contract that will keep him in Ottawa for the rest of his career. I'm thinking 8 years, 28-32 million.

To be honest, I just can't see Murray letting Volch go, especially if he WANTS to be here. When we need to resign him, we'll have top end D on rookie contracts coming in Karlsson, Weircioch, Cowen (assuming they all crack the roster next year, as many expect). We have Phillips signed, we'll retain Volchenkov, and maybe another piece. Kuba's gone, Campoli is up in the air, Lee is up in the air, Picard is most likely gone or up in the air... He's really our only veteran guy next to Phillips. As long as it's under 4 or even 4.5 short term, I cannot see Murray letting him walk.

Now let's not get into a Volch debate. let's stay focused on the subject at hand. scratch

Agreed with your post Jordo. I really do hope Volchenkov wants to be here.

About Cheechoo, I agree with your points about him, but in the end, I don't want him as a "piece" of a Heatley trade. If he's included, I'd rather he be the component that evens out the deal salary wise. If it comes down to Clowe/Pavelski/Michalek over Cheechoo as the T6F as part of the deal, I'd take any of those 3 over Cheechoo at their respective salaries. I do love his work ethic though.

It is possible though that he comes in and finds a spot on the top 2 lines and goes nuts. Clouston would certainly love his work ethic for sure and we know he rewards that.

Forget about Cheechoo + another forwards coming from SJ, they don't even have enough players signed to fill a roster, if Chechoo comes back, it's gonna be with a defenseman.

Some many things I agree with in this post even though a lot of them sort of contradict each other.

What I do know is Cheechoo was the best Shark in last years playoffs. I know tha isn't saying much, but the guy was a force at both ends of the rink. He create chances and broke them up as well.

I forgot which poster said it, but his decline in his play may in fact be due to the injuries he had. Fully recovered and playing with renewed vigor, he may be a nice thrown in (balance cap issues) in a trade with San Jose.

I am sort of mixed on Cheechoo right now. One thing i know for sure is that to put up numbers you have to be on the ice with credible offensive players. When Cheechoo won the Rocket Richard Trophy he was a top line winger. He is now down to third line status, that will hit your numbers right away not just in terms of talent but also ice time and special teams play. The other note is that Cheechoo is aparently working out hard to prove himself this year. Players with something to prove are nice, players with something to prove and a demonstrated scoring touch are great.

On the other hand, who needs a guy that another organization has given up on? The Sharks moved him down in the depth chart for a reason and want to rid themselves of him for a reason. I am not interested in inheriting another problem or project. We have had enough drama it seems.

I could go either way. If he is inevitably part of the package I will hope he returns to form and makes the franchise better. If Murray truly doesn't want him, I will assume he knows why they want rid of him in San Jose and be happy that we move forward without another issue.
