I thought it was the kind of gutless story that makes players not want to play in cities. I politely pointed out what my feelings were and he reacted like a 5 year old.

Truth is that was not the first or last stupid article he has written. I am not sure how he even has a job, personally I find one out of ten of his articles even readable, none very good.

Totally agree.

Anyone else think that GM hockey members could fill the Sun with à propos articles with unbiased accuracy? I do!

Whatever happened to journalistic integrity? Why has sensationalism overtaken ethical prudence?

Journalists used to try to sell newspapers. Now because of the internet and Google they are competing with anyone old enough to figure out how to set up a website or get a Twitter/Facebook/MySpace/etc. account (i.e. pretty much everyone over the age of 10 or below).

Seconds matter. Forget about the hours and days it takes to check your sources and validate facts; or even the the minutes it takes to run the story by your editor.

What sucks is that Heatley is supposed to be Spezza's buddy and won't be attending one of the most important days in his life. I'm surprised Heatley is skipping this... truly unbelievable.

I guess this sends a clear message.

Is he, really, though. They may be "buddies" but not all that close. After what happened with Snyder, Dany may not be willing to open up enough to anyone for a truly close friendship. If we have learned anything over the past month, is that no-one on the Senators was close enough to Heatley to know exactly what was going on.

Good point.

He is an island.

I am wondering if it is something Heatley is doing out of respect for Spezza or maybe Spezza even asked he not attend due to the media circus it would bring, those are two far fetched possiblities, but possibilities nonetheless.

Yeah, perhaps they both agreed it would be best. Who knows. I guess we'll find out after all this dust settles...

I tend to think it's out of respect, that he does nothing to cloud the day.

Something that's being overshadowed is that SPezza chose to be married in Ottawa and not Toronto. That alone says he's adopted Ottawa as his hometown.

Cograts Spezz!

If I was Heatley, I would let it be known that I'm not going. Then I'd go.

That this is a story demonstrates how little real news is out there. Or maybe Heatley demanded a trade to a different wedding.

It was suggested before, and I am starting to see it more now - I wonder if this is fallout from the accident. He was already somewhat "edgy", based on pre-draft reports. The accident may have amplified this, only initially he would have gone through counseling. With the end of the court-mandated activities, the counseling may have ended too, and thus his behaviour deteriorates.

I clearly remember Spezza saying he wasn't surprised by Heatley's request way back when he scrummed at SBP so I do think they're close. For all it's worth, I think that either of these 2 will happen :

- he's coming in secret (maybe just to the reception)
- Spezza and his future wife asked him not to come. If I was Spezza, I would have no problems doing that; you just make it clear that it's nothing personal but it's to avoid "stealing" the focus from what it should rightfully be.
