2009/10 Sens Roster predictions

Here's an idea I'd like to toss out to our community here at gmhockey.com... when the Sens' roster is pretty much finalized - ie: we know Heatley is staying, Elliott has been signed, Smith's status is known and we can fit under the cap etc... I'd like to see us put forth the "Official GMHockey.com recommended line-up for the Sens 2009/10 season". Have a full line-up with 1st and 2nd PP units as well as 1st and 2nd PK units etc...

Sort of our consensus on how we would put the team together at the start of the season.

Thoughts?

Might be tough. Judging from the way things have been going so far this summer, we might not actually get the cap or the Heatley issue sorted out until literally days or even hours before the start of the season.

Time will tell.

Yep. From the front office who wants to get the team in order, to the players who just want to get on with playing hockey, right down to the geeky internet fan who just wants to talk about the future of his team, Heatley is making it pretty much impossible for anyone to look forward.

Basically... I think my previous statement sums up everything pretty nicely.

Still looking forward to seeing Leclaire and a lot of stability in the nets.

Love this idea. I am pretending I am Coach Clouston right now while I sit at work and I will post my lines shortly.

Yeah, for sure, lots to look forward to...

... the goalies as you say, a full year under Clouston, probably the best top-6 we've had in forever regardless of whether or not Heatley stays or goes, big opportunities for guys like Foligno and Shannon and Campoli to take the next step....

... but there's the big Dung-screen called Heatley that's really obstructing the view in the meantime. I can't wait for it to go away.

Like I said before, The Olympics really play in Ottawa's favour here.

I still wouldn't put money on Heatley returning to OTT, even in spite of this recent turn with EDM. Until we begin to see some movement of public reconciliation from Heater that would allow him to return to the team, I don't really consider it a serious possibility.

But yeah, you'd have to think that wanting to play for Team Canada this year in VAN would motivate Heatley to play his best, and to represent himself as a good team guy. All that favours OTT in the short term, in spite of the mess we've found ourselves in the middle of.

I would say it is 50/50 for Heatley returning, at least after yesterday.

Heatley having a good season along with The Sens will take 1 year off his contract, another 4 million, and could be a lot easier to deal him come next year knowing that he is very much available.

Lets say Colorado (as an example) goes out and has a way better season then expected, squeeks into the playoffs and is looking for someone to really put them into contention, they know Heatley is available and room could very well be made come season's end to add him.

I dont think Heatley coming back to Ottawa will hurt them short term (2009/10) and will in fact help them long term. Everyone has a chance to save face. Ottawa showed it wont accept anything less then fair value for Heatley and Heatley can show he is a team player even though he doesnt want to be there (we'll see about that). If he wants to be moved he will have to prove that.

The long and short of it to me is that Heatley coming back for 1 more year is benifical to both parties at this point and he will be moved no matter what next year. If it's a bad start to the season (no excuse with our schedual) then Heatley will prob be moved in season.

My 2 cents on that.

My only worry is if Heatley stinks it up big time and becomes a huge distraction... hoping that won't happen.
