I love this guy. bunghole? Perhaps, but it's about time that the Old Boys Club gets shook up. I'd love to see Balsillie and Mark Cuban in the league as owners, to go around pantsing the stuffy old owners...and Bettman.
I was listening to Phil Esposito talk about his experience when he went through the process to bring Tampa into the league in 1990. He said in not so many words, that in order to be successful, when the league tells you to jump, you're response had better damn well be: How high? Seems amazing to me that a guy is willing to invest a quarter of a billion dollars, and should be also told what to do.
I just don't get the NHL's stance here. They have a guy who is starving to get into the league, who will overpay by almost 50% for a team, and will do whatever it takes to win. Why don't they just get rid off that creampuff Golisano in Buffalo and let Jimmy Balls have the Sabres.
