Does anybody else think this tourny is crucial for Spezza to prove himself as an elite center.. Not only to Canada but the Sens aswell!

definitely in terms of Canada, because an invitation to the 2010 Olympics will be based on his play in this tourney.

IMO the Sens aswell... Murray will be watching to see how Spezz does and will want to see somme good solid play from him before his NTC kick's in!

Murray is going to have one busy off season in that case, he will be able to see Heater again too, but this time without Nash or Getzlaf, this way to see if it was Heater doing it, or if was more the play of the other too (meaning Heater was being carried to an extent) The same could be said for Fisher, but he will be more of a energy/checking role on this team canada.

I could care less about the Olympics to be honest. I mean, go ahead and win some medals Canada! but in terms of the hockey, I'd really rather NONE of them go play for the olympics. We lost a Cup because of a player going and getting hurt.

Focus on your own team where you get paid the big bucks to bring the Cup home.

Don't forget that guys like Nash will be out of the playoffs by the time this tourney starts. Good news for Team Canada, but not great news for the Shannon's of the world.

Isn't Shannon playing for the US?

Yeah, I just meant in general. Shannon will get pushed down, Foligno might as well. On the Canadian team, I think Fisher, Spezza, Heater and Phillips are all veteran enough to hang onto the spots they were given, but for the rookies and 2nd year players, there might be some stinging disappointments.

If the Flyers get eliminated, that's a tonne of talent joining the Canadians right there, especially at centre.

Fisher will have to play well.

Perhaps even Spezza, to a certain extent, although I don't think he's in much danger.

But depending on the results of a lot of these first rounds, there could be a lot of new talent available.

If both the Sharks and Flyers are eliminated, for example, youve now got Thornton, Marleau, Carter and Richards as centremen (among others).

Then there's talent depending on the winner of Calgary/Chicago, as well as if the Blues lose, and pretty much every other series.

Plus with CBJ, if they get eliminated, plus with Montreal on the brink as well, mind you, that might impact the european teams more and the US (in regards to higgins)

Well, I'm not too worried about any of the Blue-Jackets centres knocking Spezza (or even Fisher) off the team. Nor do I fear their defencemen knocking Phillips off.

And Heatley is a lock even if every Canadian player were available simply because Canada's winger depth isn't as good as its centre depth.

I also read somewere that Canada would only add 3 players after the 1st round so not that many will be replaced.

You're probably right.

I'm just saying that there's potentially a tonne of talent available after the end of the first round.

Ohh there will be and it will make team Canada that much stronger. It will be top line talent as well.
