Me too. I was gonna join the chat, but I would be dead this morning. I checked out when the Sharks made it 4-3.

Good for them, they showed some mojo and fight.

if the Sharks can win game 3 heading back to SJ, they may still be in this thing.

BTW... that would more than likely be a seal in that Great White's mouth. You couldn't pay me to go surfing in waters that have seals.

Thank goodness a few of us stay up late to watch this one...

They're having trouble filling the Honda Center in Anaheim as the economy in California--and the US in general--continues to collapse.

PS I have a number of friends in California, and they tell me things are G-R-I-M.

From the Orange County Register:

Economy ends Ducks’ playoff sellout streak

April 23rd, 2009, 7:00 am by Curtis Zupke, Staff writer

Earlier this year, the depressed economic climate was enough for the Ducks to freeze ticket prices for next season.

But fans are feeling the pinch more than ever this season.

That was the main factor for the Ducks’ playoff sellout streak ending at 20 games
Tuesday, according to Tim Ryan, executive vice president and chief operating officer.

“You don’t have to look any further than the economy,” Ryan said.

Only 16,277 tickets were sold for Game 3, well short of the 17,174-plus mark the club normally achieves at Honda Center. It was the first time the Ducks failed to sell out a playoff game since Game 6 of the 2006 Western Conference quarterfinals against Calgary and therefore the first playoff non-sellout since the Ducks won the Stanley Cup in 2007.

In fact, it was the fifth-worst selling game of the season (below).

DateOpponentTickets sold*
Dec.10, 2008St.Louis16,058
Nov.19, 2008Washington16,076
Nov.5, 2008St.Louis16,144
March 18, 2009Nashville16,181
April 21, 2009San Jose16,277

*according to the Ducks

“It’s a bit disappointing,” Ryan said.

Oddly, the Ducks’ late rally to make the postseason likely hurt ticket sales.
NHL teams typically sell the bulk of their playoff tickets during mid-to-late March, but the Ducks were as far back as 12th place for most of that month.

Playoff tickets didn’t go on sale until March 27, and the Ducks didn’t clinch a postseason berth until April 10.

One could deduce that, during that window, many fans didn’t think the team would make the the playoffs and didn’t buy playoff tickets. In turn, that would have left the club with a lot more tickets to sell than usual once the team did qualify.

Smaller factors include the game conflicting with a Lakers playoff game and the Angels-Detroit game down the road.

But signs point to less discretionary income available for hockey fans, even though the Ducks kept first-round playoff tickets the same price as last season.

“As much as I love the Ducks, $60 for a nosebleed seat is tough to justify in the tough economy,” read a post on the message board of the Ducks’ Web site.
Ryan expects a better turnout for Game 4 tonight. The team can get 300-500 walk-up sales on game day, which would likely bring them to a sellout.
Otherwise, some fans will be content to watch it from their living room.
Said Ryan, “People simply can’t afford to go to the game, and we understand that.”

The US is basically in an economic depression right now. A very ugly situation...when people no longer want to try and feel better by entertaining themselves, it's a crisis of major proportion.

Neely is right, SJ's first line is probably the biggest choker line in the playoffs. San Jose is outplaying the Ducks with their 2nd,3rd and 4th line, and still, Getzlaf, Perry and Ryan are gonna win this series, they are just dominating Thornton and Marleau it's not even funny. It's actually pretty sad.

Not impressed with McLellan either.

I don't think I'd lump in Marleau in to that equation...I'm fairly certain there's a stastic out there that has Marleau in the top 3 for playoff goal scoring since the lockout.

Can you imagine, when the Ducks are done with the Sharks, their second round match up is going to be Detroit...no wonder home ice is so pivotal...that is a tough series to jump into after getting out of this one.

***This is all hypothetically assuming the Ducks win this series.

Thoroughly dominant performance by the Ducks.

Defensed to death by the Quack Pack, the Sharkies shake their snouts in wonder...

Jonas Hiller and Bobby Ryan lead the way.

Sharks in 5

Hmmm....sounds like somebody didn't watch too many Sharks and Ducks games during the regular season.
