which is more inflated? Razz

That is officially determined by the measuring of Gary Bettman's shriveled heart vis a vis the swollen noggin of Alexei Yashin. Whichever presents the biggest discrepancy with that of the average human being, wins -- i.e., if Bettman's heart is half the size of yours or mine whereas Yashin's head is only 1/3rd bigger than ours, then "inflated salaries" wins; conversely, if Bettman's heart is only 1/3rd smaller than ours and Yashin's head is .5 times bigger than the average person's, then "inflated salaries" wins.

As you can see, it's a very scientific process. :D
Yahin's problem is that he can't earn the 15 million he feels he's worth Razz

I posted this at the time. If it's not true, this guy Adam Proteau's reputation has been damaged irreparably. Bad, bad news for him and for The Hockey News.

He had better hope so...

Oh, I wouldn't say that, at least not that confidently. If TB is genuinely interested and willing (but not able) to put forth an offer sheet for $5 mil or so, that suggests that some people think Mesz IS worth the kind of money that he's asking for. That sounds like more, not less, leverage for his agent to me.

Anyway, I still say a contract in the range of $3 mil / 1 yr, $3.25 / 2 yrs, or $3.5 / 3 years is what we should be expecting. A few dollars less, I celebrate Murray's great skill and wisdom, a few dollars more, I bemoan the state of the inflated salaries and inflated egos.
I'm thinking 4 years, 4.5 million and I would be surprised if we end up paying him anything less.
Furthermore, I would be shocked affraid if Murray even entertains any proposed deal from the Lightning, after this attempted strong-arm.

Soooo...

I added a post to Proteau's page a few hours ago. In it, I respectfully pointed out a logical problem with the 2nd last paragraph in his recent article, which reads as follows:

"'Another source – the same one that told THN.com Thursday
Meszaros had agreed to terms with a team other than Ottawa on the
framework of a multi-year offer sheet – maintains the offer sheet was
presented and signed by Meszaros and that the presentation of that
offer sheet to the player has resulted in discussions between the Sens
and Lightning that 'could lead to a trade within the day.'
"

I said that that doesn't make any sense because, as per pp.38 of the CBA, any offer sheet a player signs is considered a legal contract and that once it's signed, the GM for the team the currently owns the rights to the player can EITHER match OR pass and receive compensation. There are no other alternatives. Trading him, as the CBA explicitly states, is NOT an option: "Once an Offer Sheet for a Restricted Free Agent has been received by the Prior Club, the Prior Club may not Trade or otherwise Assign its Right of First Refusal for such Restricted Free Agent." I said that either he or his source must be confused, because what's said in that paragraph simply can't be true.

My post has since been deleted. I posted it again, asking for clarification as to why the original post taken down, and that post too was swiftly removed. Anything I now post doesn't even make it to the comments board. All this for casting some reasonable doubt on the trustworthiness of his source and/or his report.

So sad, so petty, and so shady. The guy's credibility is rapidly decreasing in my eyes.

Anyway, speaking as one fellow Sens fan to others like me in search of the simple truth, I would ask anyone who has a spare moment to go over to the article -- http://www.thehockeynews.com/articles/17692-Multiple-sources-confirm-Meszaros-to-Lightning-deal-in-the-works.html -- and politely and respectfully reiterate this criticism (or any other one that the article raises in your mind, as it agrees with your good sense and conscience) until someone answers or he shuts down the whole comment section. Let's show him what 'free speech' means.

Oooh, that number's a little high for my liking. I'd raise an eyebrow at anything over $3.75, and would be shocked/dismayed if it passed $4 mil.
