Russell: I think the whole thing is just a stall tactic for Murray. Clouston is a puppet until the end of season. There should be alot of moves but it still comes down to can murray make them happen? it's so tough to make a trade now. Spezza could be gone. He's the only one without a no trade...I can't believe murray still has a job now.
Cap'n Clutch : Apparently Fisher is willing to waive?
Russell: He may only be around until the end of season. I hear all the rumours but I never put any stock in them until they happen.
Cap'n Clutch : Russell - If Clouston gets them working then Murray hired two wrong coaches in a row. Worthy of the boot right?
Russell : Hartsburg never held the players accountable but neither did Murray. he is just as much to blame. Paddock was definitely the wrong guy. I'm not so sure Hartsburg was that bad. These guys seem to want to pick their own coach. The players are the ones to blame here. They still seem to want to play run and gun but they just don't have the personel for that. Hartsburg wanted them to simplify their game to reflect that.
beerandsens : Russell, I agree that it's the players but does that make a coaching change at this point a bad move?
Russell : Clouston is there to save money and not to have to commit to another coach long term in case another gm is in place, which is likely. Coaching change was the only option, trades are near impossible now. Murray said he was going to evaluate the playes up to the deadline. like he doesn't already know what he has.
Cap'n Clutch : Russell - I wonder if Murray has been told to stop making decisions for this team? He's cost Melnyk Emery's salary, Paddock's salary and now Hartburg.
Russell : could be. but then again, melnyk is going to let him handle the deadline deals and those are going to be huge. This deadline is so important for ottawa going forward. It's strange that murray is being allowed to handle it unless melnyk really believe in him.
Everyone: Trade Spezza?
Russell : Moving spezza is really risky. he has so much potential. maybe he just needs the right coach*
*Russell is probably around the 20th person to say this in the last 24 hours.
Neely4Life : How many coaches were the right coach for Spezzza?
Russell : can't see how Clouston will have much effect on the players. they have made it clear they have no respect for minor league coaches. those are fair staements. i agree. but looka t lecavalier. torts turned him around.
beerandsens : @ Neely, why would a professional coach care if Spezza cries? And from what you hear, how does Spezza have that large an influence, even if he has the weakest personality on earth?
Russell : spezza drives me nuts too. just when you see his potential, makes you scared to think about losing that. Maybe the won't play for a junior coach thing is a generalization but it sure seems the inmates run this asylum.
RobbyJ : I bet Clouston does a very good job.
Cap'n Clutch : Why would Clouston take on a no win situation of a job? And can we expect heavy player movements from Bingo to Ottawa - and a tremendous amount of trades?
Russell : Not alot. just too had to make a trade. one or teo major ones, I think. As for Clouston, there will always be Bingo open for him from what I understand.
This group of players is toxic. not sure any coach could straighten them out. the whole org. needs a culture change. top to bottom.
More to come....join the chat now to ask Russell as question.
Russell : they have to ID the true leaders, the guys who care, who would die for the team and the rest are expendable. give me a kid wioth something to play for over a whiney vet any day!
