I'm curious what people's opinions are on this guy's worth. I had a rather heated convo on HF about it with several nerds.

What do we think here?

2nd rounder plus mid level prospect. Not that I think he is actually worth that but to a team that is making a run and needs a guy who can pop in the odd goal and bring energy, he might be.

Somewhere in that area IMO.

3rd round pick. Pretty decent third line player but really no
team will give anything of any real value for him especially since his
contract is up after this year............I think at least.

if he can put a hold on taking stupid penalties at bad times, Chris Neil could for sure net us a draft pick, where Murray is in a bad situation, meaning as per TSN, turn this around or you are gone, that is the vibe I get, he might be trading the assets below value if he is desperate enough to try and save his job.

That's what I said too. Boy did I take heat on HF for that. I got called a 'homer' and 'crazy'. Diddle all of you, this guy has some value.

Not a 2nd? This is a gritty player who can put some punishment into opponents in the playoffs.

His value to one team will be way more than another. A team like San Jose who may be a little thin when it comes to tougness and grit.

Something like Setari and a 2nd or 3rd.

and he has played very well for Pittsburgh to my surprise.
Defencemen are a lot more valuable in gm's eyes. Neil's a good
player but he can be replaced easily on this team and other teams
certainly can find a player like him elsewhere for less than a 2nd
rounder.

hey, anything is possible at trade deadline as we've seen in the past I
just think that if a team wanted to add that type of element they can
get it for cheaper elsewhere. Heck nobody fights in the playoffs
and Neil has been invisible the last couple years in the playoffs.

He's a pretty good skater with average hands.

See, I dont think you can, usually those types of guys are the ones in demand, not the ones on the block. I think its a lot tougher to find a Chris Neil type guy at the deadline then you think.

I think Neil has more value than Gill did last year, although I do agree a defenseman is a little more valuable. You forget that Gill could have been given away for a 7th rounder last year in Toronto at some point.

You could argue either way I think... but I think Neil can get a good return.

Martin Lapointe, who has a couple of rings, only got a 6th round pick. Is Neil worth much more than that?

If he doesn't net us a second rounder then I say keep him and resign him to the same deal he is on now if possible.

Martin Lapointe is a chump who doesn't play in the league anymore and was already well due to be out of it last year as well. Not a good comparison I feel. I think the Hal Gill comparison is the best.
