Datsyuk and Lidstrom suspended

These guys get paid millions of dollars to do what they do, and it is the fans that pay their way. If you can't play because you're injured, fine. At least show up and be respectful/thankful that fans voted you in. They deserve to be suspended without pay - and the fact they aren't losing any money is Dung.

Actually, I see the point here, at least show up.

Is it that difficult for guys like Datsyuk and Lidstrom to get on the plane and at least make an appearance at the festivities, out of respect to the fans?

Pierre McGuire said this morning that Lidstrom didnt go because he wanted to see his son play a game. He said Lidstrom has 4 children and he never has the chance to see them play a game during the season. Not once.
So I say give the guy a break...

Who am I to challenge McGuire, but really? where does his family live? I assume they live in Detroit, and if they do, I find it hard to believe that it is the ONLY time he can see his kid's hockey game. It's too bad that he can't see his kids play , but that is one of the sacrifices you make when you choose to be in the NHL.

I'm with you on this one, Lidstrom has more then paid his dues to the fans... The need to add a seniority rule, after 5 All-Star apperences, attendence is not mandatory.

I completely agree with the suspensions. Now, if he warned these players to show up to Montreal before handing these suspensions down, I agree. If he didn't warn them and give them a chance to make it to Montreal, then it's not really cool. For next year's All Star Game, if this is to happen again, they should absolutely be suspended. I thought he was being a total baby about the whole thing, but it really does make sense.

Again, I must say, I don't know how this All Star BS is supposed to get Non-Fans to watch hockey. I've never seen more boring hockey in my life, how is it supposed to bring in new fans when it's not even real hockey? I don't understand that at all.

Why should Lidstrom get suspended. He has been an embassador for the NHL for 15 years. He hasnt missed an all-star game in his career, and now the injuries are starting to take their toll on a 37 year old guy, and he gets suspended, its bull sh it.

Bettman should be kissing his A$$, not enforcing a rule that should be completly subjective.

Agreed N4... Bettman is certainly adding to his increasing list of nay=sayers and all-out enemies methinks...

Totally agree. I see the league's point of view as it's a great way for the players to get out there and promote the game on a personal level, schmoozing with fans, but as an elder statesman of the game, a guy like Lidstrom has nothing left to prove and should be allowed to choose whether he attends.

I agree with a pass for Lidstrom, even though the excuse is lame. (Come on not one game, really?! I call bs) His 10 appearances grant him a pass but Datsyuk, suck it up beeyatch.
