This may be a tired subject but it's never been posted on here and I'd like peoples thoughts. This is ofcourse assuming they're all in their prime simultaneously.

Bobby Orr---Ray Bourque

OK so it's a little thin so help me out here :D

Larry Robinson, Patrick Roy, Ovechkin...

I'm to young to have known all of them anyway...

Take out Niedermayer, throw in some combination of Larry Robinson, Eddie Shore, Doug Harvey (a must), Serge Savard or Guy Lapointe.

Bobby Hull, Mark Messier, Howie Morenz, Newsy Lalonde, Joe Sakic (a comparison with Yzerman's career may actually give Sakic the edge, much as I love Stevie Y) and Phil Esposito are all guys you could potentially use to fill out the forward corps.

Or, if you want to create a team similar to an NHL team (such as with a checking line, then Bob Gainey is a must).

Where's Newsy?

I'm talking a talent laiden team. Forget the best checking line and the best pluggers etc...

Nice. I knew I was forgetting some top end guys. What do all of you think. I can't really argue with much of that.

No disrespect to Kurri, but I'll take Bure.

Also, if you were to do this with players playing their actual positions, Ovechkin already would be on this list.

65 goals is the most ever scored by a left-winger in a season.

Ovechkin, Bure...all we'd need is Forsberg and we'd have one helluvan exciting hockey team. :D

As much as I like Bure, I admit that I have a soft spot for Kurri...

It's nearly impossible to do this for the entire history of the NHL.

You should break it down into decades, but figuring out where to place players that spanned decades might be tricky. Could also do an all-star format of East vs. West, using the players most played in conference as their team.

Take that lineup and play them against this one and let's talk about who'd win:

This is a lineup put together in about 10 minutes.

I wonder about moving Datsyuk off that line, and putting Getzlaf there, only because of how they played together at the WC. But then I couldn't tell you where Datsyuk should go, because he needs to be there too.

As an aside, it'd also be interesting to put together a "biggest bust" line-up - those players who ended up furthest below expectations (I'd presume that they'd all be top five picks like Yashin, Daigle, Bonk...hmmmm....I'm seeing I trend I don't like...)
