I listened to Burns nearly every morning for the past two years on CKAC radio. He decided last year to forego chemotherapy -- quality of life issues. He would sometimes mention how he felt -- physically, morally, emotionally -- if the subject were brought up, but he preferred to avoid pity. He often said that the children he met in the cancer wards, especially those who were terminally ill, had it much worse than him; their suffering always broke his heart.
He has no regrets; he lived a full and rewarding life, and considers himself blessed in every way.
