Hot damn. I care 1000 times more about winning a Cup, but this is a fun team. I must have left guys off though.

Gonchar - Zubov
Tyutin - Kalinin
Kulikov, Goncharov

Nabokov
Bryzgalov
Khabibulin, Varlamov

:pale:

That defense is the Dung man.

Sakic won't be on the team...he just had sergery on his back for the 2nd time in 1 year and his had isn't recovering as well as hoped. It sounds like he's not even going to play next year. Toews will be on the team but I think a checker/faceoff guy will be there as well.

As for goalies, expect to see price, bernier...one of on the team. They won't go with 3 old guys, they will want the 3rd one to be a young guy in case the 2014 olympics have nhlers as well.

I tried to get Morrow in there, but it was really hard. They have some tough choices coming up.

Yeah...I'll admit, I put Giguere in there because I hate the Habs. Price should probably go.

Markov, Gonchar, Volchenkov and Tyutin are very solid (Tyutin is really under-rated). Zubov might not be around, Kalinin is meh, but that's the third pairing.

With an offence like that and their goaltending, it's not a huge issue. No one can match those forward lines.

The first line is unmatchable, but I think Canada probably can equal them goal for goal up front, it's the D that's just disgusting.

I like Markov and Gonchar a lot. Volchenkov is solid as well, Tyutin is...pretty good.

But then you have Phaneof, Burns, Weber, Bouwmeester, Boyle and Pronger/Keith/Hamhuis/Campbell/Regher/Phillips (barf right now, but he's usually good). I think this is where Canada wins or loses to be honest.

It's more than that. Can you imagine being a defenceman facing the collective hands of Kovalev, Datsyuk and Semin (with the puck, not fighting)?

Canada's D is the strongest in the tournament, though, certainly.

They're the favourites, but to say no one can compete is an exaggeration.

Also, Tyutin is a stud IMO.

Nice to see some of the teams potential lineups asq2. Do you really see that many youngsters though? Kabanov, Tatar etc etc.

I was surprised you left Lucic out Heater... I would have replaced Sakic with Lucic, except DW beat me to the punch about Sakic's recovery issues...

EDIT: and Neely beat me to the Lucic point as well! LOL

No one's got Mike Green even mentioned?

His season so far:

41 games played, 19 goals (!), 47 points, +21.

Ridiculous.

Kabanov is an amazing prospect, but in all likelyhood a guy like Yashin will be there over him.

Slovakia doesn't have great depth so Tatar could be there.

That US' team is really young. Wait until 2014 and add Schroeder and Cam Fowler into the mix and you've got a recipe for gold IMO.

I'll be dead honest, I don't even remember doing the initial lineup. You would take out Sakic for Lucic...in Sakic's home province? Boo. Smile

Lucic is so young, no one has to make a decision on him yet. He's worthy though - or he will be.

Holy Dung. And he's on the team. With...J-Bo? Wow, sickness.

He was injured for some dozen games and still leads defencemen in scoring.

Plugging those numbers out over a full season would (obviously) give him 38 goals, 94 points and +42.

He's the best offensive defenceman in the game. By 2010 his defensive game should improve.

If he scores tonight, he'll set an NHL record with goals in 7 straight games as a defenceman.

That's actually stupid. Wow.

So...

Weber - Phaneuf
Boyle - Keith
Bouwmeester - Green

extra D-men: Pronger, Burns*

*I replaced Burns with Keith because Keith is the Dung. Unless Burns gets back on track, the only way I see him going is as an extra.

PS, Don't pay attention to the pairings obviously. They're all just jumbled together.

That's one sexy D.

My suspicion is that he does and replaces Boyle.

If you're going by current performances, Phaneuf might not even be an extra at this point.
