"I'll come in (Sunday) and evaluate it again," said Alfredsson
following the game. "I don't think (it's too serious). I haven't seen
the replay, but I know he's there and I tried to get out of the way.

So, why was there no penalty on the play? Lehtinen came from the center of the ice and slammed him into the boards. Yes, Alfredsson turned just before the hit, as he was trying to get the puck and move up-ice, but that was definitely a charge. Earlier in the game a boarding call was made on a much smaller (in my mind) infraction. What really bruned, though, was that to that point in the game there were quite a few non-calls going against the Sens, with some really chintzy penalties called against them. It almost seemed that the zebras were trying to control the game.

I was at that game and was in disbelief when no one even gave Lehtinen the "how's she goin" after that hit. Lehtinen probably isn't a dirty player but most teams have a guy on the ice who will drop the gloves out of reflex rather than reasoning at a point like that. Our guys kind of skated away, thought about it and then made threatening gestures well after the play.

There wasn't a tough guy out there, Spezza, Kuba and two more but someone should have done something.

Don Brennan seems to agree in this article:

the most confusing thing was in the intermission for the game on CBC,
Al Strachan was saying "there is nothing wrong with the hit"

Is the guy blind? It was pretty obvious a hit from behind.
It may not have been as malicious as other hits we are all used to but
that is still a dangerous and dirty shot. I often wonder how
morons like Strachan have a job in hockey.

Well, in his defense, Alfie had just turned, but it's not like that would have made a difference. I would have called it an unintentional hit from behind, but a very intentional charge and boarding.

And, yes, someone should have stepped up, but the way the refereeing was going, with a 1-goal lead and a goalie unable to stop a beachball, and no tough guys on the ice, and ... yeah, all excuses, I know. Bottom line is, the Sens are not a team that retaliates for hits against team mates and that is something that needs to be fixed. We need a "Dave" (Dave is a killer ... Dave is a mess).

On the positive side, I saw lots and lots of hits last night. 42-27 in favor of the Sens. That I liked and very much.
