Howie PMd me around 3:30 saying he'll be back at 5:30.

And I'm, like, "Whaaat?" A PM probably takes longer than making your picks. Or just add your picks to the PM.

Oh, well, just a minor glitch. Round 8 is still the fastest round we've had -- first picks was 1:15 yesterday afternoon and should be done around 5:30 -- a little over 29 hours.

Let's go for a record with this one.

  • add your e-mail to your profile
  • stick around tonight if you are picking soon
  • if your turn is coming up 5-10 picks away, PM your picks to Tuk, myself, SD or any of the other "lifers"
  • if you can only log in for a short time, then check how the round is going and send in enough picks to cover the distance (HH22000 is going to be away for a while so he sent in a list that's long; it can be done

I'm pretty sure I just got a 50+ point defenseman in the ninth round...hard to not be happy with that.

I was going to take him in the 6th round, I'm kinda schocked he survived 2 more.

I'll be shocked if he gets 50+. Scoring has been going down since the peak in 06/06 and was still relatively high in 07/07, when he got 59. That was playing with Malkin/Crosby and the high flying (but flightless) Penguins. The Ducks (although flying birds) are notorious for not being high in scoring.

Anyhow, he's still a decent pick because, let's face it, there are no more proven 0.6 PPG defensemen left who do not have large question marks attached (age/injury). Whitney should easily get 40+ points, 45 is definitely possible.

There are some higher risk/reward picks still out there. Truth is, many of the recent D picks are likely to get the same 40-45 points as Whitney, although there are a couple that stand out (to me) as "Whaaat?" picks. There had to be either some wild hunches or weird team attachment, but those picks definitely were not done through consulting any type of stats, past or projected.

And, no, I won't say which ones.
