He's making some waves...

It's crazy how this kid went from absolutely on nobody's radar 3 years ago to coming one cut short of making an NHL club, which pretty much had it's roster set... It's not like he was cut from the Islanders or something... He gave some proven NHL vets a run for their money... Watch out boys, this kid is gonna be good... Can anyone else see this kid maybe taking the captain reigns one day??

I won't go that far...

Still, I've got some high hopes.

I'm not so sure about Captain of the big club but he is definitely going to get the "C" in Bingo IMO. It's like Heater said a while ago on another forum. Smith is Kelly Version 2.0. He's going to be another smart 3rd line PK specialist and anything more will be gravy as far as I'm concerned. It's so nice having depth. We've got Z. Smith, Bass and Lee all capable of filling their roles nicely during callups. :D

I think he'll be better than Kelly, because he has more of an offensive upside... Kelly hardly puts up any offense... The reason I say Captain for this guy, is simply because of work ethic.. I don't know, it's just because I'm not sold on Heatley being a good role model, i mean he's our best player and all, but people shouldn't try to emulate Heatley, because they won't be able to... Heatley is a freak of nature in some of the stuff he does, no one can play like that... IMO Heatley will instill bad qualities in other players that don't show up for him simply because of his skill..

I may not be making sense here, but all i'm saying is Heatley gets away with not working as hard, as say Alfredsson just because of god given talent... I just think their are better options than Heatley for the "C"

call it loyalty or not, I'd be alright with Philips or Smith getting the C.
I'm not disputing that Heater is said to be VERY vocal in the dressing room, but Smash makes a great point. Heater doesn't get a lot of flack. He got some last post-season for being quiet, but if Spezza or Alfie mess up, they never hear the end of it.

It's a double-standard for sure, and if Heater gets the C, so be it, but I think Phillips may be more deserving in a sense.

I don't really fault Heatley either, because that's the way he plays and it's effective, But not everyone can play the way Heatley does... But almost everyone can play the way Alfie does, it's a simple style, and as long as you put in the effort you'll have some success...

It's hard to explain what i mean, by writing it... It would be way easier getting my point across if I were able to talk face-to-face! :D :geek:

You guys know I love this kid, but be careful thinking he's better than Kelly. Kelly posted 60 points and 30 some odd goals in Bingo before coming to the Sens.

I don't know, i'm fairly sure he'll be better than Kelly... But I think i'm the only one here who thinks Kelly is over-rated and gets paid too much... I just find there are 4 or 5 guys who can do his job just as well.... and get paid a lot less...

That was on a stacked team as a 23-24 year old, though.

Me too, I think he's gonna be better for sure, just trying to make sure we have realistic expectations.
