Crazy game last night. Russia was down 3-1, came back to tie it, then drew *two* penalty shots on the sameve play. Swiss player gets hauled down on a breakaway, gets up and is then hauled down again (the D man chasing him just stopped skating). First shooter bobbled the pick at the end, second shooter missed wide. But that wasn't enough. At the end of a post-whistle scrum a Russian player discreetly (or so he thought) butt ends a Swiss player in the nethers. While killing the 5 minute major they score the go ahead goal, then add 3 more for a 7-4 win.

They'll be tired tonight. Both teams will be one short (suspensions).

Wait, Muranov is playing? I thought 5 and a game carried an automatic suspension? He's the guy who butt ended the Swiss player.

There's that early lead they wanted. Cody Glass makes it 1-0. Don't forget the Swiss had a 2-0 and 3-1 leads.

Well, the least penalized team (Canada) gets tagged with a boarding call and the game is tied. Friday now still has the 10 minutes misconduct to serve as Canada will go with 5D until late in the first.

Guess I'm not surprised. Don't know if Russia was playing rope-a-dope or if they simply played down to the level of the competition, but they have top spot in group A and it was well earned. Canada once again could not get it done on special teams.

Switching over to USA-Finland; loser plays Canada in the quarters.

Norris assisted on Team USA's first two goals as the beat Finland 4-1.

Apparently there is no bye to the semis. 1 plays 4 and 2 plays 3, with all games being cross-overs. All 4 games will be played tomorrow. Russia-Slovakia, Sweden-Switzerland, Canada-Finland, USA-Czech.

Sweden beat Kazakhstan to stretch its streak of round robin wins to 48!

Canada vs Finland at 6:30. I'll watch this one. Probably won't tune in to the Sens game at all.

Wow, Sweden is really taking this "win all round robin games at all cost" thing seriously. They're done!

Crazy Canada/Finland game. Our team definitely lacked the star power we often have. Seemed to have trouble generating good scoring chances and finishing those that we did have.

Finland got very lucky with their tying goal and the OT winner (damn broken stick). That said, they were our equal for pretty much the entire game.

They greatly outplayed them (except for DiPietro) for the entire game.
