GAME DAY: Ottawa Senators @ Detroit Red Wings - 7:00PM EST. Sat. Feb 13, 2010
(Does Cupid have Red Wings? Shoot him down because it's not Valentine's Day yet! )
Ottawa (35-22-4, 1st in the Northeast and 3rd in the Eastern Conference) visits Detroit (27-21-6, 3rd in the Central and 10th in the West) Saturday night at The Joe.
Thursday night the Sens handed the Washington Capitals their first regulation loss in 16 outings in a match up of the two hottest teams in the NHL. Although pizza was served, it wasn't an easy task by any stretch. The Caps extended their hat-trick streak (hat-streak?) to three games with Semin's three goals, erasing an early 3-1 Ottawa lead and going ahead 4-3. Ottawa kept coming at them and regained the 2-goal lead, before eventually winning the game 6-5. Although the Caps did not look tired following an overtime loss in Montreal the night before, a rusty Varlamov did not hurt. Ovechkin was held to 2 assists as 1st star Anton Volchenkov blocked a career-high 11 shots (most of them were probably Ovechkin's).
Detroit sits 1 point out of the final playoff spot, but has a game in hand on 8th seed Calgary. Thursday night they managed to get a single point, losing to San Jose in a shootout (their first loss to the Sharks in four games). They would dearly love to grab two points and go into the break in a playoff position.
