Ugh. The news is really grinding to a halt...

According to CapGeek, it's a 2 year at 525K per... they are still under the cap, even if they do have a full 23 man roster, I don't see them hitting the cap floor. After all, Dipietro won't count against the cap if he's on the LTIR.

Actually, I don't think that's the case.

Commonly, we talk about LTIR as a way of "getting someone's salary off the team's cap hit," but that common usage is inaccurate and misrepresents the case. What actually happens with LTIR is you get "cap relief" in the form of the right to spend OVER the cap. Think of it as a store credit rather than a cash refund.

It's a subtle difference, I confess, but I think it means that, in this instance, the NYI will not have to spend more money to reach the cap floor.

In that case they just make it. But thanks for the clarification. Must say, I am extremely impressed with the NHL's CBA. Seems pretty iron clad, with few opportunities for loop holes.

Look for them to address these heavily front-loaded, super-long deals signed before a player's 35 year old that take a player into his 40s. Everyone knows that, once the player makes his money, he's going to retire and the cap hit come off the books. That's a big loop hole.

I think Burke is already starting to make a stink about it, and rightly so.
