so if I understand correctly, there are only 3 players from ottawa that offer sheets could be tendered?

Group 2 FAs: Brian Elliott, Mattias Karlsson, Derek Smith.

I am guessing we haven't heard any details of a Brian Elliott deal since this Heatley BS is still ongoing.

I wonder what the status is on the Chicago issue - I read somewhere that the NHL is investigating whether their RFA offer sheets were tendered correctly. If not, a bunch of the RFAs (Versteeg, Beech, etc) are now UFAs.

(apologies if this is addressed elsewhere...)

I'm guessing someone could consider targeting Elliott once the Big Monster is signed somewhere.

If he's been qualified, then is he still eligible for offer sheets?

Yes.

Qualifying offers mean that the team is entitled to compensation should any other team sign the player to an offer sheet.

Players who file for arbitration, however, can no longer be signed to an offer sheet. People act like a player is being greedy when he files for RFA arbitration, but the truth is that it actually helps protect the organization from having its assets poached.
