Wish me luck!! (non-hockey related)

I am heading off to Khabarovsk today (birthplace of Alexander Mogilny, my all time favorite hockey player). It is in far SE Russia (about 8 hrs flight east of Moscow!) ...

This is the first trip my wife and I are taking to meet the little boy we are going to adopt. If all goes well, he (Aleksei) will be home with us in March or April

Is there a big difference? I have a coworker who's name is Alexander, but when he's with his Russian crowd he goes by Sasha. I dunno.....

Over here Alex tends to be used as the shortened version of Alexei as well as Alexander, but in Russia Alexander becomes Sasha and Alexei becomes Alyosha or Alyoshka. Different names.

The trip went well. We got home last night, exhausted, and sad. It was very difficult to say goodbye to the little guy. My wife was ok. I was a basket case. I don't do goodbye very well

We might not get to see him again for 3-5 months.

He hated me at first (I wasn't even wearing my Leafs jersey!), but got used to me quickly (after discovering I had new toys for him in my backpack every day). He is 2 yrs 5 months now so will be about 2 years 8 months when we get him.

Walter nailed the nick-name thing. He is called Alyosha by everyone. He doesn't even acknowledge the name Aleksei. We have a chance to basically change his name to whatever we want but we always said though that, unless it was a really bad name (like Igor), we would keep it.
