lol probably. I think a trade deadline deal would make more sense or a buyout this summer.

Is anyone else concerned that the Sens won’t do what I consider as smart rebuild strategy and take on other teams bad contracts for extra pieces?

Give me cap dumps like Eriksson, Bonino, Ladd and Dubinsky and add in a nice pick and prospect. Thanks. I think Bonino is the only one of those 4 without some sort of NTC though.

the problem is if they reach the floor with their own players then I can't see them doing that. It would be beneficial and guys like Eriksson and Ladd can't help lead.

Exactly, I only brought this up after seeing how much they paid Nilsson. Keep doing that and we will be at the cap floor ourselves. Brutal that all they will probably care about is reaching the floor and not smart business decisions like taking on bad contracts for extra pieces.

Sorry I think you got what I was saying but I just saw I said "can't lead" but I meant "can lead". I would definitely take Eriksson to help a guy like Brannstrom off the ice.

I guess we'll see, still a lot of guys to sign including Ceci, White, Duclair, Hogberg, Wolanin, Paul, Gibbons potentially. Then I think they will also land a free agent or two.

I don't think there's any chance they will, which sucks. It's not about smart business, it's about Melnyk being broke.

Too bad, I would have loved to add these crap contracts and gets 1sts or prospects.

I knew you meant “can lead.” But then you lost me at signing Ceci.

It's possible...Ceci won't suck as much if he's with Chabot or Wolanin. I'm not down with re-signing, but 1 year would be nice so we can (actually) trade him at the deadline.

I don't mind Ceci at like 3-4 years but I would also be fine with trading him and signing Polak or Methot or somebody similar

Is Zaitsev better than ceci? He’s available for trade

I don’t know if he is or not but he gets a lot of hate. Like a lot!
I think Ceci would have more value in a trade with zaitsev locked Ina contract.

I imagine the Leafs are trying to stir this up to get him off their books. They don't have room for him if they plan on re-signing Marner and all the other RFA's.

On that note, I am not really sure what's going on in Toronto. Nylander signed his big deal and disappeared (but has since shown how good he can be albeit on international ice), the Matthews contract is weird - he is a UFA right at his peak year, Gardiner was thrown to the wolves (a few years ago he was seen as their version of Karlsson), the Matthews/Babcock relationship has been rocky for years (4 mins in period 3 of game 7 as an example), and Babcock himself is on life support as a coach. This may be a big year for the Leafs - at least a really big off-season.

Diddle the Leafs. Also, Kadri was noticeably booed last night when he was introduced at the Raptors game.

I did not watch a second of the game because I assumed they'd be outplayed like they normally are in game 1s. I had very little faith in them coming into the Finals. I will likely watch the rest of the way though, as they're making believers out of everyone. What a cool thing...and they earned it, not like Vegas last year.

Asset management in Raptors land. Only one of their starters was drafted by the Raptors (Siakam) and he was a late 2nd rd pick. Van Vleet was undrafted, Norman Powell was a late 2nd rd pick, McCaw was picked up off waivers, etc. Ujiri took gambles via trade, stockpiled assets, and their coaching staff/player development has been off the hook. They deserve to be where they are absolutely.

As for the Sens, no reason they can't follow this model. They have all the assets in the world now to make big moves, lots of cap space, etc. If only they had good player development, a competent GM, and an owner committed to winning. Sigh

they have money, owned by Canada's media monopoly. They'll probably be like the Jays and only spend it when they are good, though.
