That Johnson contract could also be good for a Turris comparable.

Stone maybe but Turris is UFA.  I'd say 6 per for Stone and 7 per for Turris.

Sadly but I think you are rig about Turris. Depending what kind of year stone has but he might come in cheaper.

I think we might be able to get turris at 6, maybe even 5.5. I feel he might want security more than anyone else.

In no way, shape or form will Turris make 7 million. If he does, it won't be here. He doesn't have the production to warrant that kind of contract.

Turris will make around $6M which is about market price for his skill-set and almost double what he is making now.

I think players and agents are factoring in the 15% they are losing in escrow when making their demands.   Carey Price will take home about 4.2 of his 10.5 after escrow and taxes.

He's also in the province/state that has the highest income tax. But he is also paid in USD which converts pretty nicely to CAD. I'm not feeling bad for Carey Price right now but I get your point.

You guys all realize what escrow means, right? They are not losing the money, it's just put in a safe place until they can figure out exactly how much of it needs to be given back to them to make up the 50% of HRR.  The greedy bastards weren't satisfied with $10M salaries (don't forget that's what Yashin made way back when), they wanted half. Well you can't have both a contract that pays you exactly $XM and also a guarantee that, collectively, you get exactly half of the revenues.  That's where escrow comes in to smooth out the bumps in the road.

There was no escrow before the 50%.

They received 2% back after the 2015-16 season.

So what. They got what they asked for, which was 50%. You can be an employee or a partner. The owners had no problem with employees, but the players wanted partnership. They wanted half the revenues (not profits -- revenues) without putting in a penny of their own money.

Attendance is down in some places and I can guarantee that some of it is due to the exorbitant ticket prices. NHL has the highest season ticket cost of all sports. The Chargers will, umm, charge $375 per ticket for the most expensive seats. That adds up to $3750USD, which is just under $4750CAD. How much would you pay for a flex pack of 10 games for the best seats at the CTC? I'd bet it would be very comparable. And since we get paid in Canadian dollars that's another premium to consider. And don't forget that a football game experience typically includes almost a full day with the tailgate parties. You get more for your money.

So attendance is low because of high ticket prices and the players are upset because their "employee" salaries are lowering their "partner" benefits?

Eff right off!

Fascinating article. A bit dated but the concepts all still apply.

Pageau signs for 3 years av of 3.1 mill.

Nice cap hit, would have preferred a longer deal but ok

It seems like Dorion is giving the team a two-year window to push for a cup with all his UFA's becoming available in and around that time. Still, I feel pretty confident with the guys in our system.

That was a touch more than I thought we'd pay Pageau, but close enough.

It's a bit more than I thought too but I am happy it didn't go to arbitration. Nice to see them settle on something versus going to an ugly process.

Dzingel left. Wonder how tightly to the wire it will go. I doubt it goes to arbitration.
