The guys on TGOR this morning were really giving a tongue bath to Boucher this morning talking about how the team used to look like a minor league team at times and now they play well ALL THE TIME.  It was overboard.  I really like Boucher and the staff, but it's not like the team was terrible the past couple years - just not quite good enough.  Last night we were outshot 42-28 and it was a great performance by Condon that saved the day.

Anyway, I don't want to get sidetracked here, I just think the previous two coaches get criticized a little too much when they weren't far off from what Boucher is doing here so far.

Good W last night, still feels great this morning.

I'd also like to point out that we did a pretty good job of staying out of the box last night (or taking a Blue Jacket with us when we did get a penalty)...the crazy/flukey 5 on 3 not withstanding.  Also, Dubinsky got a 10 minute misconduct at the end of the game.  What a dummy.

Agreed on the coaching. Was never a fan of PTFlea's hero, "Mac", but Boucher needs to get this team to a much higher level to earn the lofty praise he's already receiving.

They got schooled by Anaheim the first game then beat them (OT) the second time out. Same with the Pens. With the Caps, I think they had a stronger second game even though they outplayed them both times.

Now,  it doesn't always translate into wins but it looks like they typically do better against the same team the second tone around. Even with the loss to the Leafs,  they thoroughly outplayed them in the second game.

I think that speaks to the strength of the coaching staff and bodes well for a best of seven series.

I think you're right, that's a testament to the coaching staff because when you look at the roster it's less than ideal.

How do you explain losses to lesser teams?

The way boucher has them going, they keep teams to the perimeter or force then to shoot through the lineup of sens down the middle.  They're protecting the middle of the ice really well.  42 shots, how many of them grade a opportunities?

I felt the first period the Jackets outplayed us, but it was even enough that one gorgeous pass was enough to be up 1-0. On the second period I thought the Sens evened it up and when outplayed then for long stretches. Then they went up 2-0. At that point o think the shots were Peru even (just checked, shots were 13-10 Jackets on the first, 11-10 Sens in the second).

What happened in the third? Could be fatigue. Could be the Jackets had to open it up and were really pressing. I also felt the reefs assisted in that effort by not calling the game that was being played. Foligno and Hartnell were doing their best Kreidet immitation. Condon was pushed around in his crease a lot. Also a lot of interference (player stepping in front of the pursue on the cycle - it was like watching the NBA sometimes).

But in any case, they built up a 2-0 lead in a fairly even game through 40 minutes. Is bet of they were the ones down by two they would have potshot the Jackets. Maybe not as much, but still.

Which ones, specifically?

Any team can beat any other on any given night. There were games we soul have won that we lost, and also the other way around. Overall we've beaten the lower teams more often than losing, and the same for the better teams.

Top spit in the Atlantic is still within reach. Three games in hand should be 4 points. Perhaps even 5 (2-1-1 record). So we only need to make up another 3-4 points. It's not impossible.

I agree that Boucher certainly has them keeping teams to the perimeter more. That said, Columbus still got a lot of grade A quality chances last night and Mr. Condon and some luck kept them out of the net.

A few good chances yeah.  But watching them operate the pk is neat because they won't yield the middle.  Boucher knows what he's doing, I hope it continues to evolve.
