Cap'n Clutch wrote:I wish I could find video of it but I can't. Cullen gave up the puck on the point at least twice on the same PP and no one even mentions it but me. The point is I think Spezza is getting crucified here because it lead to a break for Crosby that went in the net. Cullen's errors didn't cost goals or if they did no one remembers them.
Cullen doesn't make $7M. Regin had 3 penalties that led to 2 PP goals against, but he's a rookie (and we won the game anyway).
A lot of things don't get mentioned. On that Spezza play A-Train looked like some of my kids' team-mates in pee-wee 'C'. There was another play blamed on Spezza (Crosby's 1st, in G2 I think) and I just re-watched it. A-Train makes a terrible lunge and completely misses Dupuis, I think. Spezza is skating toward the front of the net -- he wasn't coasting behind Crosby at all, Crosby was behind him. Dupuis shoots and Elliot makes a save that goes up in the air and in front. Spezza swings and misses and Crosby comes *from behind him* and swats it in.
A-Train made a mistake trying to poke-check Dupuis. Elliott should have sent the rebound in the corner. Spezza should have looked behind to see if anyone was there. Three mistakes, but it's *all* on Spezza, even to say that he coasted coming back and let Crosby in front -- that part was *never* the case.
It's amazing how blind we can all be (myself included on that "drop-pass" play).
