Luongo signing Hossa-like deal?

Some news outlets are reporting that Roberto Luongo has agreed to an extension with the Canucks, but ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun talked to Luongo's agent and Canucks GM Mike Gillis, and both said the deal is not done yet.

Word is that the contract is a front-loaded 12-year deal worth $64 million -- slightly more than the 12-year deal Marian Hossa signed earlier this offseason. It's rumored that only the details of the contract have to be worked out.

Still, Gillis was fishing in the Queen Charlotte Islands on Monday like a man who already has his franchise goalie under contract.

That's a pretty decent deal if they got him at a cap hit of 5.333 for the next little while.

agreed, now I know detractors will say (waiting for N4L :^^^^: ) Luongo hasn't won anything and really hasn't pushed them deep into the playoffs yet, but this guy is a franchise goalie that just needs the pieces to fall in place around him for a deep run. Vancouver has done some retooling and should be pressed for another playoff year. They have some tough competition in Chicago, Calgary, and Detroit however.

The Canucks would be idiots to let Luongo go, and they know that so they'll probably sign him to whatever he wants in the end
