If both conference finals end in sweeps, the championship will start on
May 28. If either series reaches five games, the finals will begin on
June 5.

Detroit plays their 4th game on Sunday. Pittsburgh plays theirs on Tuesday. If both sweep then Pittsburgh has two nights to recover, while Detroit has four. Advantage Detroit, for sure.

But if Detroit sweeps and Pittsburgh goes five, then the Wings have 12 nights off! Do I blame this on NBC? BIH NBC!

Of course it doesn't help that they've got the two series off-set by more than just a single night. Why don't they just run both on the same nights (7PM/10PM starts) and have recaps/analyses/etc on the nights off.

So at least one series is going five, which means the finals won't
begin until June 5. Pittsburgh could finish off the Canes on Tuesday,
giving them 10 days off. Detroit could be done Wednesday, giving them
9 days off.

It could be a real ugly first game of the SCF (yeah, I *am* calling a Detroit/Pittsburgh final -- who isn't?)

Now, Detroit would really welcome at least some of the extra time, to
let Lidstrom and Datsyuk's injuries heal up a bit. I don't know if any
of the Penguins are in need of R&R -- perhaps Gonchar.

Seems the NHL is trying to work with NBC to get the Finals started this Saturday if everything is wrapped up by Wednesday this week.

Waiting until June 5th will seem like FOREVER.

But NBC has sweeps week to deal with and Jay Leno's last appearances etc...

Hopefully the NHL can work something out and keep the hockey going...

Game 1 is 8PM ET, while the time for game 2 has not yet been set. It's *not* going to be an afternoon game, though.

No NBC afternoon games this time? The watching public thanks them for that one.
