Re: Gerber and Bell waived
Hmmm... Philly's looking for a new goalie, why not try taking Toskala off of the Leafs hands if they wanna move him?

Bell played his role pretty well tonight. I would really like to resign him to another 2way contract.

Aside from his one horrific mistake, he was quite solid. Especially considering he came back after riding the pine for a while.
Good job Bell.

I know Bell played well, but we can't possibly keep on with this path, right? We're committed to Phillips and Volchenkov as shutdown guys. We're committed to Campoli, and for now we're committed to Lee. It is for this reason alone that we must trade Kuba, possibly trade Gator, and let Bell move on. Don't even get me started on Picard. If Murray is truly going to fix our problems, he's going to have to trade away guys we like. If we have 5 of the same 6 defencemen back, we're no better off.
Blow your wad on a trade for a defenceman and fill the sixth spot with a warm body for cheap. Well, maybe Bell fits in after all...

Exactly, we are going to have to part with somebody we like otherwise we're going to see similar results. The culture of this team has to change.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking as well. Bell has played himself into a contract for the Sens (assuming he isn't looking for a pay increase of much) as a 7th D-man - or a guy that can challenge for one of the spots in the bottom 2.
I agree, get rid of Kuba, maybe access the Picard scenario, but definitely get a number one D-man for the top pairing. Someone who can shoulder 23, 24 25 minutes with skill and precision. Not the sloppy mess we have back there.

It worries me a bit about the Ohlund rumours that date back to last summer. Is this guy really that good? Pardon my ignorance, but he doesn't come with much more fanfare than a Kuba, does he?
I don't really know where my opinion on the question stands yet, but I wonder if Murray is still holding to his guns that he doesn't want to take on a long-term deal. We know that Boyle and Campbell slipped last year based on term alone, not dollar amount. Does he still believe that approach is right, or has he changed his tune? That is a tough effing job, man.

You'd have to ask Neely and guys like that. From what I've seen of Ohlund, he's a 20+ minute guy who's a carbon copy of Kuba's style - but plays with a real physical edge.
Basically the biggest knock on Kuba and Ohlund does it with aplomb. So yeah, from what I know of him, he's a pretty good upgrade.
I have reservations that he could be the number one guy we need, but people would argue for sure. Plus he's Swedish which would make for a killer top pairing in the future with Karlsson.

Re: Gerber and Bell waived
Ohlund is physical, can provide a bit of offense, good in his own zone, and enough expierence that it will be benifical to the young D coming up in Ottawa.
Ohlund would be a good guy to have here for a bit while the Sens go through their transition/rebuild.

Sounds good but would Ohlund really want to endure a transition period? I think he'd rather play for a cup contender.

Maybe a number 2, not a number 1 though. Unless the Sens go out and sign J Bo, we wont be getting a number 1 guy.

I was listening to a guy from Vancouver on the Team today and he was talking about how much Ohlund's game has deteriorated this year. I'd be okay with a 3 year deal, but anymore term than that and I'd take a pass.

Re: Gerber and Bell waived
I dont think you can give the guy 5, 6 years, but he would def help this team defense right now.

He's making 3.5M this year, I wonder what it might take to get him. I do believe he is one of Murray's main targets this summer.
