Re: Summer Dany Heatley hits
I do like the idea that Kovalev can step into Heatley's roll and fill his minutes if Heatley sulks. Kovy can take his PP minutes and his first line minutes whether Heatley's stuck here or he's moved.

Re: Summer Dany Heatley hits
according to capgeek.com (you have me addicted Rooney, darn you :^^^^: ) The Sens are over the cap by about a million and a half
http://www.capgeek.com/charts.php?Team=23
So Heatley will have to move or another minor deal will have to be made to get back under the cap, when's the deadline for that? training camp or the start of the season?

It's being discussed to death in at least one other thread. I think we are closer to $2M over. Add $1.5M for injury call ups and we need to clear $3.5M. The there's Elliot (Auld would have to be moved) and potentially Karlsson ($1.3?). We need to move Smith, Auld and clear another $3M; more if Murray wants *another* top-six (last year we had Foligno and Shannon on the second line -- they really should be playing third line). Trading Heatley and only taking back $4-5M in cap should about do it. Unless Wiercioch also makes the team, then we move Lee somewhere.

Brian Murray will be able to do it though, it pretty much rules out SJ though as a trading partner if they want to send Marleau back, unless we include more salary going the other way.

Re: Summer Dany Heatley hits
playing with capgeek.com, if we did this for a deal, Marleau and Clowe to the Sens for Heatley, Smith, Schubert and Auld, it would work (not saying the Sharks would even consider that offer though, their GM is not Mike Milbury)

Re: Summer Dany Heatley hits
San Jose could still be involved but they'd have to clear cap space with someone else first. No way we can take extra salary back now. Perhaps Murray knows something about Smith he isn't telling? Just speculating here. That alone takes care of 2.6M, then move Heatley and only take back 5M and you've cleared just over 5M in cap space. You'd still have to move Auld just to make room for Elliott though. You'd also have a bit of money to go out and get Big Bert.

It makes sense. They want a guy who can play with Nash and he's shown he can be great with him in international competition.
Whether it happens and whether it's a deal Murray likes or us as fans like is another story. Add to that the fact the Ek has talked about it and it kills it right there.

With elements like Brassard, Filatov and Russell potentially available, I think we could learn to like it a lot.

Re: Summer Dany Heatley hits
the jackets trade would work almost numbers wise when it comes again to using capgeek.com
To Ottawa
Filatov 845,833 cap hit
Brassard 821,666 cap hit
Huselius 4.750,000 cap hit
To Columbus
Heatley 7,500,000 cap hit
which brings us down to just around 400,000 over.

I'd hate to have to take Huselius back. Maybe Modin, who only has a year left on his deal?

I guess capgeek isn't accurate then, ugh, we would be even more over then, would have to send Smith back, or substitute Huselius in favour of Modin, who has a 3.25 cap hit.

Don't worry guys. I highly doubt they'd send us Both Filatov AND Brassard anyways.
