Reportiong (nearly live) from the Development Camp
I took my hockey-razed 11-year-old to the Sens development camp today. Go there a little late and had to leave a little early, but still got to see a few drills and even the start of a scrimmage they had toward the end of the practice. Below are just some quikc, random observations:
1. Luke Richardson! I thought he had turned down the coaching job, but he was there, on the ice, helping to run practice. Maybe it's just for the development camp, but maybe not.
2. These guys are all pretty big. When I saw Karlsson, I started wondering why everyone says he's small. He was a lot bigger than I expected.
3. Cowen wasn't practicing, unless it was in the first 15 minutes that I missed. Finally saw him walking to the dressing room at the end of the first half, in full uniform. Later on my kid saw him being interviewed by TSN -- I guess that's the problem with being a first round, top-ten pick. My kid might be on TSN tonight
4. Wiercioch has some scoring touch, he kept putting the puck on almost every rush. Nice size, doesn't look at all skinny. Looks a lot like Brisebois did when he first came up with Montreal, and he's still got one year in college, where I'm sure he'll put on a few pounds.
5. Some of those guys were seriously huge: Blood, Gryba, Sdao. Sdao is not very quick on his feet, though.
I will probably remember a lot more later, but that's it for now. It was a lot of fun, the parking lot was (relatively) empty, lots of room to stand/sit. If you've got kids into hockey, I highly recommend it. The 3-3 tournament is probably going to be better attended (possibly packed), so if you want to see some game action they will probably scrimmage the last 20 minutes (around 2:40).

Yep. Big guy, stops pucks pretty well
They had another goalie who was just as big -- I think his name was Volkining or something. Sounds German.
I ran into a lady who was there with a bunch of kids and she said they were visiting from Germany. Her husband was on a business trip or something. Ottawa isn't exactly the destination of choice for a family tagging along on the father's business trip but, hey, you can see some high-end NHL prospects for free.

Yeah, O'Brien was there as well. Here are the names I remember seeing:
Karlsson, Wiercioch, Cowen (he was dressed but I never did see him skate), Sandin, Silfverberg, Lehner, Petersson, O'Brien, Coporusso (man he's fast), Smith (wow, he's alot bigger than I expected), Wideman (looks very small -- and he's a D?), Regin, Bass, Blood, Gryba, Sdao, Cohen, Volkening, Borowiecki, Cowick, Brisebois (any relation?), Costello, Weller, Condra. There was a third goalie but I don't remember his name. There was another forward that looked like he was tired all the tme -- tall kid, looked about 16 but tall. Can't remember his name, but it was a fairly short one, started with a 'G'. I doubt I remember all of them. I counted 24 names plus the two I couldn't recall, so that's a total of 26. I heard there were 36 players in camp, so I'm missing quite a few.

Hold on, just found this:
http://senators.nhl.com/team/app/?service=page&page=NewsPage&articleid=432107&cmpid=rss-News%20in%20English
They say 32 players, so I actually remembered quite a lot. Wow, my memory is better than I thought.
The third goalie is Rowat -- never heard of him. The tall kid who looked tired was Grant.
Funny, the bulletin doesn't mention Richardson, but he was definitely there.

Wont find a better offensive guy in the 4th round... they need to get him over to Bingo ASAP. He has a long way to go despite the article.

I believe this is using stock video from last year. There were no light-blue jerseys this year, and in one scene they showed Lee on a stationary bike. Lee's not there this year.

it seemed like it was just more to remind people what the purpose of the prospect camp it didnt really sound like they were talking about anyone prospect in particular

So that's Brennan, huh? I may have run into him thinking he was just one of those guys with no life out there to see potential NHLers (hey, at least I brought a kid).
He's right, though, the place was a meat locker. I had shorts and a tee-shirt and I kept my hands in my pockets pretty much all the time.

It's true, Lee wasn't there... that kind of bothers me. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that it's because he wasn't invited, and not because he chose not to go. But if the latter were true, I would be pretty disappointed.
