On the Spezza not, even though I hate hearing him 99% of the time and still hate the "I gotta prove them wrong" BS, I did like his interview today and though he came off very mature and spoke with a lot of conviction. He ment what he was saying, there was no BS when talking about The Sens. If the right deal came along at some point in the future, the way things are going you might have to pull that trigger.
Fair enough. Actually I haven't actually read that interview yet, but I gather he said Dung or get off the pot to Heatley. Very nice.

The fact he didnt throw Heatley under the bus and spoke as if he truly cared about Ottawa, the organization, and the fans. It showed he had a little character. First time I have been impressed with Spezza in quite some time.

Right now there is such a huge chance to really grow a young core and bring them up together, gradually. Obviously you need some of the key guys there like Phillips, Fisher, Alfi, and Neil, but what ever else you can get with your other assets in Ottawa, you do it.
The Sens have no shot to compete right now, this is the perfect time to lose and build.
Spezza's still young, why not keep him in the fold and grow the young talent around him, Alfie, Fisher?
Nice young blueline, we should have some great grit and some skill coming in, good in goal for the time being. Why not keep Spezza when he's young and has 6 years to go?
Yeah, there are some pieces up front. Spezza's obviously the best by a significant margin, but Foligno, Regin and O'Brien are there, as well as Silfverberg and Petersson.
I'd still say our organizational depth at forward is one of the worst in the league, though. We could use a nice return forward-wise for Heatley, and could use a first-round forward choice, barring something crazy like Cam Fowler falling to us at 9 (were we to pick there in 2010).

You can watch the Spezza interview on the Sens' website. Click "Spezza video" on the "Heatley 'Still an Ottawa Senator'" story.

Re: Reportiong (nearly live) from the Development Camp
Well, I took three of the kids to see the 3-3 tournament. Got there about 15 minutes before it was supposed to start and there was a practice going on. They were using three of the rinks -- one for goalies, one for puck-handling drills, and one for skating drills.
Never did see a 3-3, but did see lots more skating drills. Oh, well, at least it wasn't a wasted trip out.
Can anyone honestly say that Wiercioch, right now, could not do as good a job or better than one of Lee, Picard, Campoli, Bell? Second time I've seen him, and both times he stood out.
I like Lehner's work ethic. After they did the skating/shooting drills for a while they had all the guys do a couple of quick laps. He was the only goalie who had his head down, skating as hard as he could. Volkening was OK, but the last guy was barely even trying. This wasn't a conditioning problem, he wasn't even trying.
At one point near the end they were all doing push ups. Bass skated over to Karlsson and leaned on him with his stick as the poor kid was trying to do pushups. I take it Bass is a bit of a character. After he was done,Karlsson just rolled over barely able to sit up. Other than that, though, I barely noticed Karlsson, and I was keeping an eye out for him. Is he OK?
I think I noticed a name that I hadn't seen before. But I can't recall the name. Is it possible that someone arrived late, didn't make the first day's session?
I can't say I was all that impressed with Petersson. After reading what Murray had to say I tried checking him out whenever I could, but nothign really stood out. I guess everyone can have up/down days.

I was at the Sensplex around 11am and there wasn't any sign of the development camp (not many cars at the KRC either)

It started at 130 and went to 330. A couple of drills at the start, about 45 minutes of scrimmaging and then another hour of drills + 3 on 3 ...

Any predictions on the winner of the tournament tomorrow?
I'm giving the edge to Team Grey.
(man I wish I could go to that...)

OTTAWA – The Ottawa Senators will conclude their annual development camp on Monday, July 6, with a 3-on-3 tournament at the Bell Sensplex.
Starting at 9:45 a.m. and running to 11 a.m., Ottawa’s prospects will break into five teams for a round-robin 3-on-3 tournament. The event is open to the public and will take place on the Scotiabank ice surface at the Bell Sensplex.
Team Gray would be my guess as the winner but since cas already chose them, I will take Team White.
