Late midnight, I had been informed that the Minnesota Wild have put forth an offer that may be too good to pass. The Wild are the third team to offer a package for the servcies of Dany Heatley. The first two were the Oilers and the Sharks. Bryan Murray is trying to get a Top 4 Defenseman and a Second Line Centre out of it. Ther two positiosn are the Sens' most glaring needs currently. So, do you want know the offer? Drum roll pleaase! Ba dum ba!

Wild acquire: Dany Heatley
Senators acquire: Marek Zidlicky, Pierre-Marc Bouchard, 5th round pick in 2010

So, just to preview the previous two offers made for Heatley...

Oilers acquire: Dany Heatley, Jason Smith
Senators acquire: Andrew Cogliano, Dustin Penner, Denis Grebeshkov

Sharks acquire: Dany Heatley, Chris Kelly
Senators acquire: Joe Pavelski, Marc-Edouard Vlasic, 3rd round pick
"

Just for fun ( assuming thee are remotely true) what would YOU choose if you were Murray...err...Melynk (as he's probably making the call on this one)

my personal choice would be for the Edmonton deal.....but we all know how that went!

Thoughts?

I don't want to be cynical, but after the Auld/Russell rumour, and after reading other comments on that site, I have a hard time putting much stock in the info put forth on SensBuzz.

Anyway, not a great return at all, especially since we get jack in terms of picks / prospects, but at least Zidlicky would come off the books next year if he doesn't figure in long term.

That means that this potential deal has at least the benefit of cap flexibility looking forward, which the EDM deal (with the Penner anchor) did not. Personally, tho', PMB is not a player I'm really interested in.

totally agree....

"even though" it was mentioned on that site, I DO believe it makes sense for Colorado to be in on Heately as they've cleared some Cap space, missed on the Free agents, AND Sakic is retiring.....

at this point, I'm not hoping for a whole lot....that way I'm not going to be upset when don't get the moon for Dany....

something like...Wolski, 1st Rd 2010, 1st rd 2011

I'm more inclined to conisder Kovalev as part of the return so let's get some picks!
Especially the 1st RD for 2010 cause I think they're going to be in the bottom again next year with or wthout Heater.

I think the San Jose deal would be best for the Sens, although there is no chance it will ever happen with San Jose's current cap situation. This trade would push San Jose to just under $4M over the cap.

But for the Sens, we'd get a solid young 2 way defenceman, and an underrated 2 way top 6 forward. Both still very young. And on top of that, we'd have over $5M in cap space remaining.

But there is no way that the Sharks would do this trade.

DO we have enough that will start this year though and be good?

That Sj deal was easily the best there. That Minn deal was close to awful. Another left handed, puck movin D man... how about nooooo.

I would call Sedigutchi a 2 way forward though, if anything he is very unreliable in his own end. But I agree, that SJ deal would be VERY tough to pass up if that was actually the deal... maybe a 2nd round pick though.

The trade didn't mention Setoguchi, it mentioned Pavelski. But I agree about Seto. He has more offensive upside than Pavelski though. I would still prefer Pavelski of the two though, as he is a solid PKer, was 56.3% in the faceoff circle, and still has offensive upside, especially if he had Kovalev on his wing. He'd be a very good addition to this team, in my opinion.

Then that is my fault isnt? hahaha. I like Seto playing beside Alfi and Spezza honestly, Alfi is GOD and he will make up for the defense woe's Seto might have, plus I think this year will be the year people take notice of Spezza besides in the offensive zone. All signs are pointing towards him ACTUALLY turning it around... this is his team and I think he knows that.

Anyways, fuc king trade the guy already.

The only thing I would insist on is naming him "The Gooch" like the bully on Diff'rent Strokes.

Dont need a 1st, but at least a 2nd rounder, hopefully a 3rd or 4th with it, which I would prefere anyways. Sens are doing well with their mid round picks so...

yeah but the way COL is shaping up, their 2010 1st could be another lottery pick Smile

None of those deals look especially good and the San Jose deal isn't even plausible relative to the cap.

Ya, well if I have learned anything from the NHL since the lockout it's that teams worry about the cap during training camp and not before.
