GMHockey - Come back Kid

Post by Cap'n Clutch on Fri Apr 24, 2009 2:36 pm

This one is for the most impressive come back of the season. It could be a bounce back from a poor previous season or just an impressive come back from injury. Make your nominations.

My vote is clearly biased but I have to go with Alfie on this one. Two major injuries and missed like 2 games total. Absolutely amazing. He also put up some solid numbers on a low scoring team.

I'll give a vote to Michael Ryder...

wasn't a career year for him, but close and to really help put the nails in montreals playoff coffin after he was chased out of town... good for him

Ryder's an excellent choice.

I nominate Martin Havlat, however...and not just because I'm a Hawks fan.

Injury plagued seasons last two years...this year comes back and leads the Blackhawks in scoring (BTW with a plus 29 rating) as they power their way to a 104 point season, 4th place in the West and their first playoff spot in 9 years.

And, most important of all, he has become a T-E-A-M player.

I think I've even seen him back checking, coming back to play defense AND even blocked a couple shots in the Calgary series... so all in all a good year for Havlat... that and he avoided the big miss 50 games injury for the first time in forever

You haven't seen Havlat throughout the year...he has been exceptional. His two way play has been flawless.

Ever been to Minsk? My aunt lived there. Went there for her wedding. Plus I'd visited my grandparents in Molodechno (about 50 miles away) many times.

As you might know, I lived in Poland for many years, but only made it as far east along the highway towards Belarus, as Bialystok. (BTW did spend time in Moscow and Vilnius)

Wanted to go to Minsk though...still might.

Going to Helsinki in October...not far away.
