Did you break the news to SensGirl? He was only her 6th rounder (4th forward) but still.

Bret Hedican Retires
from tsn.ca
After a career that spanned 17 seasons with five teams, defenceman Bret Hedican announced his retirement from the NHL on Wednesday.
The veteran blueliner, who won the Stanley Cup with the Carolina
Hurricanes in 2006, leaves the game after compiling 55 goals and 294
points. He played in 1,039 games, and became the 14th American-born
defenceman to appear in 1,000 NHL contests.
"I'm proud to have played this game for as long as I have and I'm
leaving with no regrets," said Hedican in a statement. "I want to thank
all of the general managers who believed in me, the coaches who got the
best out of me and all of my teammates who made me a better hockey
player."
A native of St. Paul, Minnesota, Hedican was a 10th round choice of
the St. Louis Blues in the 1988 draft. He also skated for Vancouver,
Florida, the Hurricanes, and Anaheim. The 39-year old was twice
selected to play for Team USA at the Olympics, in 1992 and 2006.

That league gets stronger every year. If theres another strike or lockout it could kill the NHL.

Good point actually. I never thought of that.
Mind you, if there's another lockout, the NHL won't recover for a decade - if ever.

Re: General Hockey Talk - Injuries, signings, factoids + other news from around the league
i dont think it would be too bad most american and canadian born players want the stanley cup plain and simple and the fan base will waiver but they wont be able to watch as much khl.. although there may be a loss of european talent...i am not sure how much the stanley cup means to different european players

Rumour number one:
From Vancouver radio 1040 or something like that, it's all the rage in St.Louis that the Blues are thinking about trading Brad Boyes to the Pens for Jordan Staal.
Team 1040 in Vancouver BC had a CBC guest (Jeff Marek) I think was his name and he claims that this is the hottest rumor out there..apparently Pittsburgh wants to re-unite Boyes with Crosby as they played on the same line in the Worlds.

I went there looking for an interview with Dung-for-brains and found that.

That wouldn't be such a bad deal for the Blues.
