SSF, now's the time for you to throw your hat...and your boots...into the ring.
The NHL needs a team in your 'hood.
Actually, if these fellers from Taranna buy the team, wouldn't the conspiracy theorists then suggest that this is a prelude to a second NHL franchise in the GTA?

Nah. I'll settle for the AHL in Cornwall, unless I can gather the customary dozen financial backers...
On that note, this is positive for the folks in Thunder Bay. If I'm not mistaken this transaction would give that community an AHL team.

Re: Balsillie and Bettman Go To War
Six months after the declaration of war between Balsillie and Bettman, is it finally over?
Wayne Gretzky apparently thinks so. From ESPN today:
Wayne Gretzky chose not to file a formal objection in U.S. Bankrupty Court by Friday's deadline, paving the way for the NHL to likely complete its purchase of the Phoenix Coyotes.
The case will be back in court Monday where Judge Redfield T. Baum will review the $140-million bid by the NHL, which is expected to be approved.
Gretzky could have filed a complaint in court Friday given that the league's purchase bid carries no guarantees that he'll get paid back the $8.2 million in deferred salary that he is owed from the Coyotes.
But Gretzky's business manager Darren Blake told the Arizona Republic that The Great One didn't want to be responsible for dragging this out any further.
"If it's in the best interest of the city of Glendale, the organization and the NHL, Wayne wasn't going to be the guy holding up the sale," Blake told the Republic on Friday afternoon.

I don't blame Gretz one bit. He's already worth more than God, and his rep has taken a huge hit over this whole affair. Take the loss and step out of the way.

Re: Balsillie and Bettman Go To War
Judging from Gretzky's backing of Ice Edge during the proceedings, I'd say that a side-deal with them has been in place for some time. Gretzky will get his cake.

Re: Balsillie and Bettman Go To War
The sale of the Yotes to the NHL is approved. From the AP today:
PHOENIX -- A federal bankruptcy judge has given his approval to the sale of the Phoenix Coyotes to the NHL.
Judge Redfield T. Baum agreed to sign the sale order on Monday after attorneys made minor modifications to the deal.
None of the changes significantly altered the NHL's agreement to pay about $140 million to buy the team from owner Jerry Moyes.
The only party who didn't join in the agreement is former coach Wayne Gretzky, who owned a small portion of the team. However, Gretzky did not file a formal objection with the court.
The sale ends nearly six months of an often-bitter court battle pitting the NHL against Moyes and Canadian billionaire Jim Balsillie.
Ice Edge, formed by a group of investors from the United States and Canada, says it still is interested in buying the team. The owners of the Canadian Football League's Toronto Argonauts, Howard Sokolowski and David Cynamon, also reportedly have interest in purchasing the team.

No mention of cake for Gretz, though it has been reported he has received a book of coupons for discounts on cheesy crust pizza at Domino's, and a Costco card.

Costco cards are important...especially for The Great One. Janet is, apparently, quite the shopaholic.
