A blog on the Tampa Bay Lightning

Post by SpezDispenser on Mon Nov 03, 2008 5:23 pm

I can't stop thinking about how they managed their team this summer. Some good, some bad moves...but one catastrophic move IMO.

Well said, Heater! That's a perfect summary of the woes of the Tampa Lightning. I especially agree with the point of bringing in Meszaros to play with Boyle, but Boyle is already gone! LOL

give it 1, maybe 2 years, and Mesz will be wanting a trade.

That is a terrible situation there. Owners, that think they're GM's running a team, is never good. Imagine if they told us to use our GM game as a model for running a team? That's pretty much what's happening there IMO. Good blog dude. Very thorough.

I'm taking my GM Central role very seriously. I'm only making moves I feel the real St Louis owners should/would do.

That's cool Matt but, do you honestly believe you should be running the Tampa franchise as GM? Do you feel you're fully qualified to do that? That's really the point I'm trying to make is all.

Oh absolutely not.

To me, they were over-anxious and wanted to make a splash. They definitely were taken advantage of in the Boyle trade.

wow! Once again Heater, your writing and opinions never cease to amaze me.

Great points and I think the ENTIRE league will see what happens when a bunch of Hollywood goofs (who's living is earned peddling FICTION) think they can make and run an NHL team in the REAL world.

I agree with you guys. It was bugging me for some reason - maybe because the Lightning had an opportunity to really make progress - and with one terrible move, they screwed everything up.

They'll argue that the Boyle contract takes him to 38 - and at 38, he's unlikely to be an impact player, but I would argue that for sure. Plus...what exactly is wrong with Boyle at 38? The Sharks signed Rob Blake at that age - and he looks just dandy with Boyle et. all. Mez would be....30 I believe when Boyle's 38. Guess who now knows the ins and outs of running a defense...

Someday I'd love to get the TB version of why they let him go. And if the only reason is that he'd be 38 at the end of the contract - it's not good enough and would cement their stupidity.

If it's so they could add Vrbata...I would suggest they have Dung for brains.

yup! I think there's still a LOT of questions around why they were SO adamant to get, or more specifically, and RUN Boyle out of town.
The tactics they used to get him to waive his NTC were borderline deplorable IMHO.

Oh, does anyone know what happened to our banner and logo?!?! LOL

I don't even have faith that the Ownership has an arguement for anything they have done so far. Do you think they'd even think that far?

Before they traded Boyle I would have said yes, now, there's no way they had the foresight to make their moves and have them work. It was, as Cronie was saying, Hollywood guys having fantasy hockey fun - in the NHL.
